Home -- How Just The Facts Works

Kindergarten
Kindergarten focuses on the use of ten frames and real-life manipulatives. Students will master the basic concepts of number recognition and correlating it to vocabulary, and will be given an introduction to their Addition & Subtraction Facts. Kindergarten is taught in the exact same way as the other grade levels. This introduction gives students an experience of what it will be like in 1st grade.

Grades 1-2
Grades 1st & 2nd are taught using the same steps for both addition and subtraction, starting with the Number Sentences and Vocabulary, they will then move to Algebraic Thinking, Fact Family, and Assessment for addition & subtraction. Games are built in throughout the program to reinforce concepts. Remember each step is taught exactly the same, the difference is the pace and how much information your students are able to handle based on their level of understanding. The assessments are the same format in 1st and 2nd, the only difference is there are twice as many equations to answer in grade 2nd than in 1st.

Grades 3-6
For grades 3 - 6 the same systematic process is taught in the same manner, the only difference is in the symbols and vocabulary. Your students will start with the Number Sentences and Vocabulary, they will then move to Algebraic Thinking, Fact Family, and Assessment for multiplication & division. The real-life manipulatives are what help students go from understanding symbols to putting into use a real-life application.

Implementation
Teachers come to a three day workshop. They will come one day and then go back to their campuses and classrooms to begin implementing the first steps. Then, in 6 to 8 weeks, those teachers will come back for the subsequent steps. Each teacher will leave with all the materials, manipulatives, and posters to begin implementing Just The Facts.

Uniqueness
Students work through a step by step process using effective hands on tools such as real-life manipulatives, flashcards, musical instruments, highlighters, timers and more. Each child progresses independently and moves at their own measured pace, and teaches them at the level they are academically and works with each at an individual level.

This process is essential for At-Risk students who need more intervention. Just The Facts can help target students at any level. Each curriculum step can set attainable goals that can be mastered. All students must have 100% mastery of each level assessment before moving on to the next step.

Hands-On Manipulatives
Just The Facts uses real-life manipulatives to move the children from concrete understanding to abstract mastering of their basic facts through number sentence and word problems. A big component of this process is making students write a real-life story with real-life looking objects. This is probably the most difficult skill for children to do independently. They will use objects such as horses, ice cream cones, tools, shoes, rings, etc., to make up a story that mimics a real life situation. After acting out the work problem, they then draw a picture and write the equation.

"This helps students relate what they do in the classroom to what goes on in the real world. We want our students to understand that the reason we learn math is so they can apply it outside of the classroom in their everyday lives."
